“Aracelis: ¿hace frío en Macao?”, le preguntó desde Madrid el ministro de Turismo, David Collado, a la señora que veía en una inmensa pantalla rectangular mediante una videoconferencia.
“No, aquí está tropical; un clima agradable. Como puede ver la playa (detrás de ella), podemos bañarnos; bellísima la playa, precioso el sol”, le respondió Aracelis de forma espontánea.
Y así Collado fue interactuando con otros cinco dominicanos en la videoconferencia, quienes tenían a sus espaldas la playa, el cielo azul o un aeropuerto, mientras en Madrid, España, hacía una temperatura de 9 grados Celsius con un viento cortante.
Cada uno de los que estaban a la distancia invitaba a los presentes en el inmenso salón del Hotel Marriot Auditórium de Madrid, en especial a los representantes de agencias de viajes y aerolíneas, para que visiten y promuevan entre sus clientes en Europa el destino República Dominicana, que recibió 1.4 millones de turistas provenientes de este continente en 2022.
Esa era la idea del encuentro-almuerzo que, según el Ministerio de Turismo, contó con la presencia de más de 300 agencias de viajes y tour operadores de Europa, un día antes de iniciarse la Feria Internacional de Turismo (Fitur) 2023.
Con una producción apoyada de la pantalla gigante y otras ocho más pequeñas a los laterales, Collado sumergió a los invitados en la República Dominicana, con una exposición similar a la que acostumbra a hacer el Ministerio de Turismo en sus ruedas de prensa mensuales para informar las estadísticas del sector.
“¿Qué ser humano tiene esa oportunidad de poder salir por el mundo a presentar su país?”, dijo el ministro, cual emisario con una alta encomienda. “Pocas veces ustedes van a ver a un ministro de Turismo que viene a hablar con ustedes, directamente con las agencias de viajes, con los tours operadores”.
“Hemos pensado en fortalecer nuestras infraestructuras -agregó-. En que cada vez más la República Dominicana se convierta en un destino seguro para los turistas que ustedes envíen hacia nuestro país”, dijo Collado.
Estadísticas iban y venían, como el récord de más de 8 millones de visitantes totales, incluyendo cruceros, que recibió el país el año pasado, según las cifras oficiales, como fruto de la recuperación del turismo en la pandemia del COVID-19.
Mientras, los números eran interrumpidos por cortes de videos informativos, con imágenes de diferentes lugares de la República Dominicana, acompañadas de música envolvente, desde merengue o de ambientación.
Entre esos números, Collado dijo también que el 57 % de los turistas que llegan a la República Dominicana lo hace por el Aeropuerto Internacional de Punta Cana, donde están 20 de las mejores playas.
En este destino de clase mundial indicó que hay 56 restaurantes, 14 discotecas y 20 casinos.
“La República Dominicana creció en un 11 por ciento respecto al 2019 en materia de llegada de turistas por vía aérea, y crecimos en un 19 por ciento en llegada de visitantes por vía de cruceros respecto a ese año, por lo que llegamos a un total sin precedentes de 8.5 millones de visitantes en 2022”, dijo Collado.
Reconoció que el mundo enfrenta retos de crecimiento y altas tasas de interés, “pero el turismo ha mostrado ser resiliente, y el turista buscará destinos donde obtenga un mayor valor por su dinero, como es República Dominicana”.
Impresiones de los presentes
“Me gustó mucho (la presentación). Fue muy profesional e inspiradora”, le dijo a Diario Libre Corinne Römer, gerente senior de Mercadeo, Alianzas y Eventos de la aerolínea suiza Edelweiss Air AG. “Para este año, para nosotros el destino de Puerto Plata es muy importante porque al mercado suizo le gusta viajar, alquilar un coche y descubrir un poco, y creo que el norte, con Puerto Plata y Cabarete, es muy bueno para eso”.
Rupert Kraus, gerente ejecutivo de red y relaciones con aeropuertos de la aerolínea alemana Eurowings Discover, entiende que lo más importante para comunicar a sus clientes es la diversidad que ofrece el país, no solo el foco más común que es Punta Cana.
Para Ana Bernando Vicent, gerente de Negocios de la agencia de viajes española Doble A, el destino dominicano “de por sí siempre fue espectacular”. “Pero lo que nos sorprendió mucho, por lo menos en mi caso, es la apuesta tan grande por ser un destino covid free”.
“Siempre que nos piden un destino de Sudamérica, Centroamérica, intentamos vender República dominicana, porque creemos que es un destino que lo tiene todo”, dijo.
La generación Z en la mira
Antes de que Collado hiciera su presentación, la viceministra Jacqueline Mora repasó los retos y oportunidades del país.
Para este 2023, reconoció que República Dominicana tiene como reto atraer a la generación Z, esa que nació desde mediados o finales de la década de 1990 a mediados de la década de 2000. Y viaja dos veces al año -según dijo Mora-, a diferencia de la más adulta que se programa para hacerlo una vez.
“Esa población son 2 billones de turistas en el mundo y es la que va a marcar la pauta y, por ende, las estrategias de marketing, las estrategias de ventas”, dijo la viceministra.
“Es el mejor momento para que los europeos visiten la RD”, aseguró.
