Mario Lama, director ejecutivo del Servicio Nacional de Salud (SNS), indicó ayer, durante una visita al Hospital Materno Infantil San Lorenzo de Los Mina, que las autoridades están  enfrentando “una crisis sanitaria que heredamos”.

Lama aseguró que los problemas no iniciaron recientemente.

Asimismo, informó que se está realizando un levantamientos y desarrollando acciones en todas las instituciones de salud, para “fortalecer la unidad de servicio” de los hospitales.

La convocatoria de prensa se dio a raíz de la connotación mediática que ha tenido la situación en la que 34 bebés fallecieron en febrero de este año, a causa de “infecciones”,  en la Maternidad de Los Mina.

También, por las condiciones insalubres del hospital Salvador B. Gautier.

Dotación de equipos

En el conversatorio, Lama indicó que se está dotando el hospital materno de equipos y “se está evaluando si hace falta más personal para seguir supliendo todo el personal que esta institución y las demás necesiten”.

Informó que el Colegio Médico Dominicano es parte de la comisión que evalúa la situación y en caso de que ellos establezcan los responsables deberán asumir las sanciones.

Además, el funcionario informó que la muerte de los bebés se debió a condiciones de los pacientes o a infecciones, “no por falta de recursos”.

“Aquí no se mueren niños por falta de insumos u oxígeno, como pasaba en años anteriores”, manifestó.
