Las infecciones respiratorias agudas (IRA) son unas de las principa­les causas de morbilidad y mortalidad entre los niños y actualmente una gran parte de la población in­fantil está siendo afectada por procesos respiratorios.

En las últimas semanas los centros de salud regis­tran un importante incre­mento de la demanda de atención de niños en las consultas médicas y en las emergencias de centros de salud.

Así lo aseguró ayer la presidenta de la Sociedad de Pediatría, Luz Herrera, quien destacó la necesidad de que en el país se proce­da a aplicar la vacuna con­tra la influenza a toda la población infantil y no so­lo a los grupos vulnerables o menores que tienen al­guna condición de vulne­rabilidad en su salud.

Muchísimos casos
“Claro, actualmente hay muchísimos niños afecta­dos de infecciones respi­ratorias”, señaló la espe­cialista, al agregar que la Sociedad de Pediatría en­tiende que se debe vacu­nar a toda la población in­fantil con la vacuna de la influenza

Recordó que las in­fecciones respiratorias agudas están entre las principales causas de en­fermedad y muerte entre los niños y que es necesa­rio su protección median­te la vacuna que debe apli­carse cada año.

Unas 435 mil dosis
En las últimas semanas, los centros de salud pú­blicos y privados tam­bién han visto incrementa­da la presencia de pacientes adultos con afecciones res­piratorias, entre ellos el vi­rus de la influenza sobre to­do el tipo B.

El país dispone de alrede­dor de 435,000 dosis de la vacuna contra la influenza, un 30% más que las obte­nidas el año pasado, que es utilizada cada año para in­munizar a grupos vulnera­bles, entre ellos los adultos mayores, sobre todo los que viven en residencias u ho­gares de ancianos, embara­zadas y niños y adultos que tienen enfermedades que deprimen su sistema inmu­nológico.

Las autoridades sani­tarias han informado que cuentan con la vacuna de la influenza y que se empe­zará a aplicar entre la po­blación de mayor riesgo de complicación a mediados de este mes. Algunas clíni­cas privadas están aplican­do la vacuna desde hace al­rededor de 15 días.

Influenza tipo B
Entre los pacientes eva­luados, en los casos de in­fluenza, se ha detectado mayormente la circula­ción de la influenza tipo B, confirmaron, por separa­do, el doctor Rafael Mena, presidente de la Asocia­ción Nacional de Clínicas y Hospitales Privados (An­declip) y la infectóloga Clevy Pérez, presidenta de la Sociedad Dominicana de Infectología.

Recordaron que para es­ta época siempre se regis­tran incrementos de casos de procesos respiratorios provocados por influenza y otros virus circulantes, cu­yos síntomas, en este mo­mento, pueden confundir­se con los del Covid-19, y recomiendan a la población vacunarse contra ambas afecciones

Es la infección más fre­cuente en el mundo y re­presenta un importan­te tema de salud públi­ca. La mayoría de estas infecciones como el res­friado común son leves, pero pueden complicar­se y amenazar la vida.
