Moradores del sector Filiú en San Pedro de Macorís aun lamentan el arresto de Leomar Valdés Martínez de 81 años, quien era buscado por las autoridades norteamericanas por los cargos de asesinato y lavado de activo.
Según los residentes, Valdés Martínez llevaba más de una década residiendo en una casa de dos niveles ubicada en la demarcación conocida como Juan Pablo Duarte en el sector Filiú de la provincia en mención, a quienes por demás le tomó por sorpresa el arresto del presunto asesino.
Prófugo del FBI residió en el país por más de una década
«Julio, como le decían en el barrio, tenía muchos años viviendo por aquí, más de 10, por eso nos sorprendió mucho cuando nos enteramos de la noticia», manifestó Domingo, motoconchista y vecino del arrestado.
Este además se mostró un tanto apenado por el apresamiento del nacional cubano, ya que lo considera como «una persona colaboradora y alegre que siempre aportaba con la comunidad sin meterse con nadie».
También dijo que su vecino “era una persona normal que salía al colmado, compraba” y que cuando se enteró le dolió, porque era una gente que conocía por bastantes años que nunca le había hecho daño a nadie en la barriada.
Así mismo piensa su camarada Noel, quien desde ya añora las “acciones de benevolencia” que hacía Valdés Martínez con los comunitarios más necesitados, como aportar a personas que realizaban una construcción incluso colaborar con la escuela Juan Pablo Duarte, la cual está a pocos metros de la que fue su vivienda.
“Si ese hombre te veía realizando una construcción, iba y te ayudaba, te metía la mano en esta misma escuela (Juan Pablo Duarte) él le ayudaba a pitar, a desyerbar te decía ‘mira 100 pesos vete echa gasolina’ y nunca hubo conflicto. Él era un hombre querido de aquí”, dijo Noel.
Otro que corrobora las versiones anteriores fue un vendedor de “agua de coco”, quien tiene su puesto de ventas en las afueras de la escuela Juan Pablo Duarte y catalogó al imputado como una “persona que no mata ni una mosca, que nunca tuvo un problema con nadie”.
En ese mismo sentido Kenia, vecina por casi 20 años de Valdés Martínez, calificó al acusado como “un amor, humilde, que cualquier cosa que uno necesitara lo ponía a nuestra disposición”.
El cubano, a pesar de estar de manera ilegal en el país, llevaba una vida como cualquier otro en la barriada, junto a su pareja, de quien se desconoce la identidad y con quien tuvo una hija.
La pareja, de acuerdo a los comentarios de los residentes del sector tenían como pasa tiempo visitar una finca y darle seguimiento a los sembradíos de limones y naranjas que Valdés Martínez había germinado, para al mismo tiempo prevenir que sea violentada la propiedad por malhechores.
Kenia recuerda al ya extraditado por su “disposición de ayuda”, en especial con ella.
“Si se me rompía un tubo él me decía ‘venga’ y si tenía me lo resolvía de una vez”, manifestó la moradora al recordarlo.
De igual forma expresó que “era una persona que no le gustaba el ruido y era raro que escuchara algún tipo de música”.
SORPRESIVO APRESAMIENTO
El allanamiento y posterior apresamiento del cubano el pasado martes dejó “boquiabiertos” a la mayoría de comunitarios de Filiú, quienes por el comportamiento del arrestado nunca se esperaron un hecho de tal categoría, causando un gran nivel de asombro.
Las autoridades llegaron a la calle Henríquez Ureña, esquina calle Central en una operación combinada compuesta por la Procuraduría Especializada Antilavado de Activos y Financiamiento del Terrorismo y la División Especial de Investigación de Crimen Organizado Internacional (DEICROI), de la Policía Nacional en busca del señor de 81 años.
De acuerdo con las autoridades actuantes, en el allanamiento se ocuparon documentos relacionados a su proceso en Estados Unidos, a pesar de que el imputado niega su participación criminal.
CARGOS
Contra Valdés Martínez existía la orden de arresto F05036908 desde año 2005 por el cargo de homicidio en primer, delito por el cual ya compareció ante una corte en Miami quedando oficialmente acusado sin derecho a fianza.
Durante su audiencia en la corte, la defensoría del acusado optó por usar su derecho a permanecer callado, escudando el veredicto de la jueza actuante y retirándose de la sala penal.
Sin embargo, las autoridades dominicanas a través de un comunicado habían informado que el presunto asesino estaba ilegal en el país y prófugo de las autoridades norteamericanas, por “un asesinato subyacente y una investigación por lavado de activos”.
Los delitos mencionados anteriormente fueron la razón por la cual la Dirección General de Migración emitió el Auto No. 00023-2023. para la deportación que se hizo tras el allanamiento autorizado por la Coordinación de los Juzgados de la Instrucción del Distrito Nacional.
EL HECHO
El natural cubano habría sido el responsable del asesinato de un hombre identificado como Eduardo Rojos, en fecha 24 de noviembre del 2005, mientras se encontraba en el interior de su vehículo.
De acuerdo con la parte policial, Rojos recibió un disparo mortal en los alrededores del local comercial “Cantina Don Goyo” en el condado Miami – Dade, Florida.
Por la acción el hombre de 81 años fue considerado por el Buró Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) como un fugitivo armado y “altamente peligroso” que proporcionaba información falsa para evitar su captura.
FORTUNA
Los investigadores además estiman que, durante su estadía ilegal en la República Dominicana, llegó a amasar una considerable fortuna con la cual costeaba sus gastos diarios.
