Miles de haitianos se manifestaron este domingo en el condado de Miami-Dade como parte de varias movilizaciones internacionales para llamar la atención del caos y la criminalidad que enfrentan sus compatriotas en la isla.

El estado de Florida tiene el mayor número de haitianos en Estados Unidos, con cerca de medio millón, mientras la segunda mayor concentración está en Massachusetts, con más de 80 mil.

«Lo peor ahora mismo en Haití son los secuestros», expresó por su parte Jean Harold Noel.

La violencia por parte de las pandillas en Haití alcanzó en 2022 niveles no vistos en décadas, con un fuerte aumento de los homicidios (2.183) y secuestros (1.359), más del doble que el año anterior, según datos de la ONU.

El miércoles pasado el Gobierno estadounidense aseguró que apoya la solicitud del Gobierno haitiano de enviar una fuerza multinacional especial para ayudar al país.

Durante una reunión con el primer ministro de Haití, Ariel Henry, el secretario de Estado de EE.UU., Antony Blinken, dio su apoyo a la propuesta y reafirmó la «urgencia» de llegar a un consenso que permita que se «restablezca el orden democrático» en el país caribeño.
