“Me atrapó con un buen golpe, y simplemente no pude recuperarme”, dijo García. “No podía respirar, iba a levantarme de nuevo pero sencillamente no podía”.
La victoria de Davis plantea un posible duelo con el invicto Devin Haney, que posee los cuatro cinturones importantes de la división. Haney pelea en mayo contra el excampeón Vasily Lomachenko, también en Las Vegas.
En el otro combate de la jornada, David Morrell Jr. terminó rápido con Yamaguchi Falcao, al que noqueó a los 2:22 del primer asalto para retener su título de súper mediano del WBA. Morrell mejoró a 9-0 y ha ganado todas sus peleas menos una por nocaut. Falcao, que se quedó tres minutos en la lona, está 24-2-1.
